Scholarship

MAYOR JOE SERNA, JR. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The SHCC provides support, mentoring and scholarships for Sacramento youth. Over the years, we have awarded over $400,000 in scholarships. That amount and the number of scholarships continue to increase due to generous contributions from local corporations, foundations, business owners and individuals.

This year's Scholarship Program Dinner, held on May 30, was an overwhelming success. The SHCC awarded scholarships totaling $54,500 to 53 deserving students in the Sacramento area.

“It’s all too common to only hear the negative statistics about high school drop-out rates or underperforming schools. We’re so happy to celebrate the accomplishments of 53 high achieving local students by awarding scholarship money to help them pay for their college education,” said Diana Borroel, President/CEO of the SHCC. “At the SHCC we believe the youth are our future. That’s why each year we work to raise a significant amount of money for local students. We’re very proud to be the region’s biggest provider or minority scholarships—but even prouder of our recipients success and achievements.”
